What's new with Flowmaster/Hushpower and Jay Leno's Garage?
To start with, Garage General Manager Bernard Juchli outfitted his Formula Atlantic racecar with a specially designed Hushpower muffler designed to drop the decibel level of the racecar from an open pipe rating of 112 dB to under the 103 dB requirement as mandated by the Portland International Raceway. In recent months, similar mufflers have resulted in putting racecars that had been banned from racing at tracks such as Infineon and Laguna Seca, back on the track. Similar results are expected here - with no loss of power.
In addition to the Hushpower racing application, Flowmaster/Hushpower recently delivered their latest Special Project Development product (call 877-EXHAUST), a new muffler for a Czechoslovakian 1938 Tatra. The muffler required not only unique design work to build from a muffler/tail pipe orientation, but also necessitated the creation of a slot within the muffler case to provide clearance for a hand crank to turnover the rear-engined powerplant - standard faire for vehicles of this era where starting in cold weather with electric starters could be problematic.
