The Austrians believe the Pinzgauer to be the finest production, all-terrain vehicle ever manufactured - a feeling backed by many off road vehicle experts. Even with it's many off road credits, this "troop mover" is more than street capable. That's why Red Bull selected the Austrian-brand machine for their United States promotional tour. But leaving them in stock form - well that's just not Red Bull's style. After a significant number of hours of careful planning, Red Bull and A2ZFX turned these sturdy machines into the ultimate Urban Party Wagons complete with super speaker sound system and mobile D.J. accoutrements. The Red Bull Pinzgauer 2009 promotional program will cover over 5,000 freeway miles weekly between the six specially built vehicles. And every one of them runs Hushpower mufflers and generator silencers.

Hand-built between 1972 and 1979, Austrian Pinzgauers were prevented from exportation until only recently due to regulations restricting border crossings by these former military trucks. Still today, Pinzgauers must be at least 25-years-old to be exported overseas. While the Pinzgauer original was air cooled, A2ZFX's president Art Thompson realized that for the Urban Party Vehicle to be best suited for use by Red Bull in the U.S., some modifications were necessary. To make them streetable, A2ZFX retrofit these vehicles with Volkswagen TDI turbo-diesel engines among other mechanical and "high tech" feature upgrades.

The drivetrain swap, while complicated, is perfectly suited to the application and was capped off by a single Hushpower HP2 muffler. We spoke to A2ZFX's lead fabrication expert Jason Lewis, who told us that after many trial fittings with other mufflers, the Hushpower line of 409 stainless steel mufflers were the perfect mufflers for the Pinzgauer retrofits. Said Jason, "The benefit was that the quality of the Hushpower mufflers was excellent and the fit was perfect. The Pinzgauer's have a great sound now with the Hushpower exhaust."

For silencing the VW TDI, a pair of HP-2 Shorties with a 2.5-inch inlet and outlet and a 12-inch case were used (PN 12512400). Featuring the same technology as the standard HP-2 mufflers, the 409S HP-2 "Shorties" have a case length of 12-inches and a 4.00 by 5.50-inch width. Due to their Cool Shell Technology they can be placed in virtually any location under the vehicle. The "Shorties" feature a painted 409S outer shell, and 409S internal construction.

Each Pinzgauer is also equipped with a generator and to keep the exhaust note quiet; the team at A2ZFX used the Hushpower ATV Silencer (PN 7000). Hushpower's unique line of ATV Silencers was designed for hunters, security and military applications where sound control and full power is a necessity. Developed from the HP-2 line of Hushpower street mufflers, the ATV Silencers reduce sound levels by up to 10db without any loss of power. Hushpower ATV Silencers have been tested in the field and on Hushpower's ATV dyno extensively. The insulated Cool Shell case is constructed out of rugged 18-gauge stainless steel, while the internal core is fabricated in durable perforated 409 stainless steel.
