Spice Cosworth GTP Car To Race Once Again
This past week, Hushpower mufflers proved their merit once again as a John Cerini-prepped 1990 Spice GTP Cosworth was evaluated in sound testing at Sonoma's Infineon Raceway. The car, which competed in three 24 Hours of LeMans events in 1990, 1991 and 1992, emits 109dB with no mufflers and open trumpet exhaust tips and had been banned from local competition.
In the first Infineon test, Hushpower Mufflers were installed aft of the 3.5-inch diameter exhaust tubes measuring 16-inches in length. The result was a quieter exhaust at 105dB but still not meeting the requirements necessary at Infineon.
Back in the garage, another set of Hushpower mufflers were installed with smaller diameter 3-inch tubes yet measuring an additional two inches in length - 18-inches. The mufflers also featured turndown tips to aim the exhaust and sound at the racing surface. The result with the longer and smaller diameter tubes - 98dB. Well within the racetrack's 103 dB requirement.
Imagine having a multi-million dollar racecar and not being able drive that car at speed. This car now can race at tracks with noise abatement restrictions without fear of disqualification because of exhaust sound.
