I would like to thank Hushpower again for your participation in my muffler testing for the Flashco SRL Southwest Tour Series. This racing series is the new premier division for west coast late model stock car racing since NASCAR elected to discontinue the original Southwest Tour Division at the end of the 2006 season. I have supplied engines for two time NASCAR Southwest Tour Series champion Jim Pettit II for several years along with several other teams. Having spent countless hours on engine development and testing for this type of racing series, I am concerned with the current trend of racing facilities lowering the acceptable decibel levels emitted by these types of race cars. Another alarming trend is the imprecise methods used by several teams in an effort to reduce sound levels.
Your 5-inch "Pro-Series" HUSHPOWER #15020100 performed well against other mufflers currently in use on the Southwest Tour. My testing revealed your HUSHPOWER as the best muffler to balance sound dampening and maintaining horsepower. All tests were performed under similar atmospheric conditions. The final horsepower and Db readings are averages of three dyno runs using an acceleration rate of 600 rpm/sec. I recommended this muffler to Jim Pettit Racing and other Southwest Tour teams for the Southwest Tour race at Altamont Raceway Park on September 30th. I'm very pleased to inform you that the Pettit #03 car won that first race using your HUSHPOWER Muffler. The cars exhaust note was significantly quieter and other competitors mentioned the reduced sound level while Jim Pettit II was qualifying alone on the track. With your permission, I will recommend this muffler to the proper officials of the Flashco SRL Southwest Tour Series.
Regards,
Ted Yamashiro
